Attracting talent is not the same as developing it

Attracting talent and developing it are different jobs. In “How intellect densifies,” I contrast Athens, which funded a scene and drew talent in, with Budapest, which selected harder and trained earlier. The piece also argues that culture invites people in when they feel they can make an impact.

For anyone building a team or learning environment, that distinction is useful: opening the door matters, but so does what helps people grow once they’re inside.
