Tongue-tie and breastfeeding: why severity matters

Abstracts

A suspected tongue-tie deserves a closer look when breastfeeding is difficult, but not every tie is the same. In “Ankyloglossia, Tongue Tie While Breastfeeding,” I explain that the lingual frenulum—the membrane connecting the underside of the tongue to the floor of the mouth—can be unusually short or thick, with cases ranging from mild to more severe.

That variation matters in lactation support. Rather than assuming one response fits every family, the article recommends consulting a specialist when tongue-tie is suspected.
