Inadequate public transportation belongs in a public-health conversation because the options people have shape their daily routines. In “Addressing America’s Public Health Crisis,” I identify it as one of three issues worth addressing, alongside limited green space and the prevalence of unhealthy food.
For transit, the article proposes both infrastructure investment and incentives for people to use public transportation. That pairing matters for public-health planning: it considers the options available to people as well as their reasons to choose them.
