Cold calculation belongs in ambitious work

Ambitious work needs an honest accounting of its costs, including the facts you would rather set aside.
In “No chaos. Only ascension.”, I argue that cold calculation belongs alongside grand vision. The cathedral example makes the point concrete: describing what you hope to build is different from creating a durable structure others can enter and contribute to. For anyone planning a long-term project, discipline is part of making the ambition workable, not a retreat from it.
