Make room for learning alongside the work

Learning needs time on the calendar, not just good intentions.

In my article Reading, I discuss the 5-hour rule: an hour a day, or five hours across a workweek, for learning or practice. That’s a useful distinction in my work building practical AI systems. Time spent doing the work and time spent developing the judgment behind it are both worth making room for.
